Description
This is the chance for an avid Convoy fan to own an extremely rare and unique piece of Hollywood and trucking history. Unlike the entire truck, this item will fit inside your home or work in an appropriate case or setting. You are bidding on an original door to one of the original Mack RS700L's used as the Rubber Duck's truck in Sam Peckinpah's 1977 movie "Convoy". Exact details of the truck and its history can be found on our website (www.stlouisdumptrucks.com). This door was on the 1970 Mack RS731LST that was used as the on-highway on-camera second unit Rubber Duck truck. The truck was sold by EMI Films to a private owner who turned the truck into a transit mixer. The truck was rolled and totalled in 1986. We purchased the remnants of the truck and have completely restored the truck to is movie appearance. Unfortunately, this door was not repairable for reuse on the truck. There is only one other door and we intend on keeping it in our collection. The door is still in the same black paint (now faded) from the movie and still has the complete hand lettering from the movie that reads "R.D. Trucking, Inc. Albuquerque, NM". The lettering is hand-brushed by a professional lettering artist. The Bruhn decal was placed over the letter and has become brittle and deteriorated. We have removed approximately 1/3 of the decal to expose the lettering. The winner of this auction may elect to leave the rest of the decal or remove it entirely for display. The door is made of aluminum and will not rust. This door is an ideal, one-of-a-kind collector's item for the ultimate Convoy fan. We have the original truck and tank trailer and have decided to make this door available for another fan or collector. The door is shown in the first picture. The second picture shows the door and other parts when we picked them up in New Mexico with the trailer. The third picture shows the RS731LST after it rolled in 1986. The fourth picture is of the VIN plate on the door for authenticity and the fifth picture shows the restored truck and trailer today. The Vehicle Identification Number plate is NOT included in this sale. It has been transferred to the new door. This auction does include the damaged door, exterior door handle and what is left of the crushed mirror and bracket. In addition to the door, I will provide the winning bidder with copies of the documentation, including original bills of sale for the truck, that proves the authenticity of this item. I will ship this item via FedEx or hold for pick-up. I require a non-refundable deposit within 48 hours of close of the auction. Payment in-full must be made within 7 calendar days of close of auction. I prefer PayPal, but will accept a check. The item WILL NOT be shipped or released until funds have cleared if paid by check. Please contact me through eBay if you have any other questions on this item. Thank you for looking and Happy Thanksgiving!
